Hi.
I'm stoked that there is a Burner tribe here in Montreal. Viva la playa!
This past year was my 7th year in a row and they just keep getting better...so I guess that's a total of about 2 months I've lived at Burning Man...but what lifetimes we all live within that one fleeting week per year?!
About me:
I'm a 27 year old human being from Santa Cruz California. I've lived in Montreal for 26 days and will be gone in 3 months. I'm here working as a fire manipulator, dancer and fire coach with Cirque du Soleil for an upcoming show (off to China with the rest of the cast in January). I don't speak French but want to learn (warming up for Cantonese).
My dream is to experience the natural and cultural beauty that is Earth, to do something positive and to further my understanding and involvement with the divine mystery that is everything. Although I never grew out of the faery tales I discovered as a child I am pretty serious these days about seeking clarity and living from my heart. I read a lot of non-fiction, meditate and entertain most of my dreams and fantasies.
In addition to dance and fire and burning man I entertain a few other muses like poetry and song writing (if anyone knows of any good open mic's- I've been curious), beat boxing too. One day I will make short films (currently learning how to edit). I am most content in the sunshine and love to be outdoors. Blah ze blah... Overall, I'm a solid human being looking to get shaken out of my element a bit.
I currently have no life outside of Cirque du Soleil. Every weekend so far I do my best to escape the hood around the landfill (we're up by Jarry and D'iberville) and explore the city, so I've walked a ton and seen some of the surface/ tourist stuff. I've heard so much over the years about how cool this city is and all that jazz and hope I have the opportunity to experience this while I'm here (and training crazy-long hours Monday through Friday).
So if anyone wants to connect, I'm yours.
OK. That's it. Be well.

ps. Did you all ever get the decompression party off the ground? just curious

Re: Cirque du Soleil Artist- New to Town seeks like-minded Burners for...?
Tue, November 6, 2007 - 10:08 AMYou know I may not live in Montreal, but I do keep up with tribes of places I have visited. I really enjoyed Montreal and hope to visit again when the weather warms up.
So what exactly is a fire manipulator? That's cool that you are part of Cirque du Soliel. How long will you be doing the show in China? Anyways, just curious and just wanted to say HI and congrats on your gig with cirque. Have fun. :-)

Tue, November 6, 2007 - 8:20 PMBienvenue! A Cirque du Soleil artist -- way cool.
Alas, we did not have our shit sufficiently together to hold a Decom in the time you'll be here -- though we're planning a big public party for the Burnal Equinox in the late winter, pretty much right after you leave (no, folks, this is NOT an official announcement! Keep watching this space...).
In the meantime, we hope to hold a fundraiser party soonish. But we need to find a venue for it. Know anybody with a loft? :-) -

Fri, November 9, 2007 - 10:06 PMSriK I've totally got you covered. I know an AWESOME open mic night with a really open and inviting Burning Man kind of vibe, and Science, you'll dig this... Its in a big loft that's perfect for throwing a party - and they do it all the time.
Its called The Pound, 377 Richmond. Basically one block south of Notre Dame and one block over from Guy. I'm there every week, sometimes twice. The "staff" who are actually the residents are super cool. Everyone should come check it out next Thursday, especially if you've got something to present be it music, poetry, standup comedy or whatever.
And SriK. If you're not sick and tired of fire stuff, I haven't played with fire in a long time and would love to again. -

Thu, November 29, 2007 - 7:20 PMEeek! November 29th and I'm just reading all of these replies now for the first time. OK, Sri, after you post a discussion topic you have to check up on it or else there is no point...as they say where I'm from...like, duh!
Sorry you guys. That is very sweet.
Since I last wrote, our show has been delayed 5 weeks so I will be here until the end of February (and buying warmer clothes than I've ever before owned)....yikes. Science...does this mean I will be here for the Burning Man Party? Maybe you have already posted about this somewhere.
And Kay, I would love to hear more about this open mic and when it happens and.....
Thanks you all. Now this city feels less vacant!
Sri
