THE ONE TRUE PRIMARY ORGAN:
All the really important action happens here, including announcements of our monthly café meetings. If you're not subscribed to the "Brûleurs" list, you could be missing out on all the fun, sex, and excitement of being an active member of the Montreal Burning Man scene. Sign up here:
The "Brûleurs de Montreal Burners" Facebook Group is useful for getting the word out to Facebook users. Whenever we hold a meeting or other event, we send out invitations to all members of this group:
Tribe.net is a cool social networking site adopted by a gajillion Burners around the globe, and it's rife with Burner discussion boards. The "Brûleurs de Montreal Burners" tribe is good for making connections both locally and internationally:

Flickr users! There's a "Brûleurs de Montreal Burners" Flickr Group! If you have photos of a Brûleurs event, or of Montrealers being Burnerish (so long as they aren't doing anything *too* naughy or actionable -- always ask before you shoot!), add 'em here:
You can also post photos on the wiki (above).

I'm happy to find this website of Montreal burners, and hoping to connect up while trekking from NYC to Montreal in the upcoming weekend (Nov 30-Dec 2nd). It's a quick whirlwind trip, but I'm taking my car and loading it with burner friends/musicians/filmmakers and artists to venture through the city for my birthday. I've learned about rave.ca just from reading some posts on here, but also figured I'd send a post out to see if anyone knew of some great happenings that are open, artist, vj, experimental, musical, open mic, poetic, burner-friendly type parties...etc. Is there anything of the sort in Montreal? All suggestions welcome! and anyone who wants to meet up and join on our adventure brigade is also welcome. Always up for meeting new folks across the country. Merci, Holly

Hi.

I'm stoked that there is a Burner tribe here in Montreal. Viva la playa!

This past year was my 7th year in a row and they just keep getting better...so I guess that's a total of about 2 months I've lived at Burning Man...but what lifetimes we all live within that one fleeting week per year?!

About me:

I'm a 27 year old human being from Santa Cruz California. I've lived in Montreal for 26 days and will be gone in 3 months. I'm here working as a fire manipulator, dancer and fire coach with Cirque du Soleil for an upcoming show (off to China with the rest of the cast in January). I don't speak French but want to learn (warming up for Cantonese).

My dream is to experience the natural and cultural beauty that is Earth, to do something positive and to further my understanding and involvement with the divine mystery that is everything. Although I never grew out of the faery tales I discovered as a child I am pretty serious these days about seeking clarity and living from my heart. I read a lot of non-fiction, meditate and entertain most of my dreams and fantasies.

In addition to dance and fire and burning man I entertain a few other muses like poetry and song writing (if anyone knows of any good open mic's- I've been curious), beat boxing too. One day I will make short films (currently learning how to edit). I am most content in the sunshine and love to be outdoors. Blah ze blah... Overall, I'm a solid human being looking to get shaken out of my element a bit.

I currently have no life outside of Cirque du Soleil. Every weekend so far I do my best to escape the hood around the landfill (we're up by Jarry and D'iberville) and explore the city, so I've walked a ton and seen some of the surface/ tourist stuff. I've heard so much over the years about how cool this city is and all that jazz and hope I have the opportunity to experience this while I'm here (and training crazy-long hours Monday through Friday).

So if anyone wants to connect, I'm yours.

OK. That's it. Be well.

SriKanta
ps. Did you all ever get the decompression party off the ground? just curious

Once again (and I swear next time we'll meet somewhere else!) we're meeting at the notoriously hidden Café L'Utopik, 552 Ste Catherine E., just east of Berri, across from Berri-UQAM Metro. A small doorway next to the magazine shop leads to this upstairs café. It's a vegan café, kid-friendly, and they have beer and wine.

Topics of discussion:
1) Road trip to Toronto for the Post-Playa Party (not-a-Decom!) on 17 November. Seriously, YOU want to be at this party! Join us and we'll rent a mini-van or a bus or a hovercraft, whatever.
2) NYC Decom attendees get to gloat and share stories with those of us who couldn't make it.
3) Further hatching of plans for local Burning Man events in Montreal, including:
-- a private fund-raiser party some time soonish (we need a venue for this! Ask around, folks!)
-- THE big party, a Burnal Equinox event in late winter.

Be there or be set on fire!

We are doing a donation drive for for homeless men and women at two homeless shelters. We would like to provide them with items for personal hygienic kits so that they can maintain cleanliness and presentablity. Rarely are the homeless given the basic hygiene supplies necessary to maintain their health and confidence. Every homeless person should be able to look themselves in the mirror and be proud of what they see even if they do not have a home. Access to basic personal supplies can give these homeless people a greater sense of self and a brighter outlook on life. We are going to be providing small pouches/sacs with each of these items below.

I would like to ask all of you if you would be able to donate items that would be helpful for the organization. For those who live in the Montreal area - if you can donate shampoo, small toothpaste, soap etc...it would be much appreciated!! The kits include cheap items that can be picked up while shopping or with a trip to the dollar store. By giving these basic supplies to us, you can help them avoid physical and dental health problems. Perhaps even more importantly, you can help them retain their dignity during a trying time in their lives.

We are looking for:

1. small bottles of shampoo
2. small toothpaste,
3. hand towel
4. toothbrush
6. comb
7. hand sanitizers
8. tissue
9. deodorant
10. tampons – if we can find them or afford to get them….

If you can provide some of these items it would be helpful. We will be sorting them with items from other donors and placing them in small bags.We can pick them up from anywhere in Montreal.

You can contact me through this website. Please check this link for more information - createahealthyworld.blogspot.com/

I want to take up bellydancing. Can anyone recommend a good teacher in Montreal, preferably but not necessarily teaching in english? I am also very curious about triabl bellydance. I have never seen it and would love to see how it compares to traditional bellydance. If I prefer it then I would study that instead but since I have only read about it I can't say. So if anyone knows where/when I might be able to see some tribal bellydance performance I would love to know, and whether there are any teachers in the city. Thanks!

I'm wondering what neighbourhood(s) would be considered the more artistic/bohemian districts, the place where artists, students and the likes hang out and live.

I've been getting some messages about moving the Kanuckistan Village project forward.

The next step are, as far as I can see:

- get guidelines for village application/ management form BM web site (clipped below, probably not due until early summer)

- solicit Kanadian camps (Post here or get ahlod of me).

- announce 'positions' that are open and solicit people to fill them

So far, I've heard of support from
- Alberta (the ever-so-cute Cap'n Q as regional, but with the support of many others)
- Edwierdo in Montreal
- Vertumunus as part of Calgary/Toronto/Vancouver crews
- Camp Couseller Brad in the Torono/London/C4 side of things

Which other camps other than the Albertan F.U.C.K.ers and C4 might be interested. Is anyone on other listservs/tribes? Could we put out the call?

There is another discussion on this tribe on what we would want the theme camp to be (oh, and 'villages' are techincally 150 or more people, so we'll have to have that many people confirmed before we go for village status)

Any ideas? Anyone part of the planning crew for their camp interested in speaking up?

And for now, except a link to reccomendations for theme camps:
www.burningman.com/themecam...uide.html

___________________________________________________

Here's the criteria as clipped from last year's event:

2005 THEME CAMP CRITERIA

Criteria for a Theme Camp and Village

Camps should be visually stimulating.

Theme Camps must be interactive. They should include activities, events or service to the Burning Man Community in general. In most cases creating a chill dome with music and relaxation is not enough to receive placement. Some camp members should be at your camp at all times in order for your activities to be as accessible to others as possible.

The Theme Camp Registration deadline for Burning Man 2005 is July 1st, 2005 at midnight.
Please register your camp prior to the deadline so that you may receive the Theme Camp Announcements that we send once you are registered. They will provide you with all of the answers to your questions. Get in the loop - register as soon as your plans are solidified.

Camp Maps and Clean Up Plans must also be received by July 1st. We will not place your camp without these plans. Maps must be in aerial perspective complete with dimensions in feet.
You can submit the plans four ways:

Send map URL in an email with camp name in the subject line to campplans (at) burningman (dot) com. Include camp name in subject line.

Email Clean Up Plan only to campplans (at) burningman (dot) com. (NO ATTACHMENTS!) Include camp name in subject line.

Fax Map and Clean Up Plan to 415-707-2168

Send plans via US Mail to:
Burning Man/Theme Camps
P.O. Box 88468
San Francisco, CA 94188-4688
Fax: 415-707-2168
We look forward to seeing your plans for 2004! It will be exciting to see the creativity bar raised once again.

Wondering if there is any interest here to take some steps to foster a stronger sense of community among us MTL Brûleurs.

There are certainly enough of us in this town. I think that among the first steps that the Ottawa and Torono communities took were regular drink nights. So if there are at least 3 or 4 takers, we could get that started, or not?

Montreal would make for an interesting case study. Why are there so many burners here but no strong clotting factor that gets us to hang out with each other and be all burner-like together.

A few hypothesis (most of which can be fairly easily obliterated with the application of some clear thinking):
- We're not communicating in French and most burners are French.
- BM is mostly an anglo U.S. thing and MTL is a mostly French city.
- MTLers are just too cool for school. Organizing intentional community is for keeners and nerds. If you have to make your own community, you are a self-declared loser.
- MTL is a multi-polar cultural city that satisfies the cultural cravings of most burner types. So there is little to push us towards each other for us to get our fix.
- The requisite 2 to 3 charismatic, extroverted community building enthusiast types have yet to step forward and persevere in moving the community building process forward from stage to stage.

So, if there is some interest, let's get mildly drunk together, make eye contact, sit in chairs and make little mouth noises at each other. If not, that would be kinda ok too, but also kinda not ok.

This is an email of vertumnus' (a Calgary-based burner who gets around the country a lot), inviting all us Kanadians (or Kanucks) to get together and make something, well, strange and maybe even beautiful.

I'd also like to invite any and all of you to join Kanuckistan, a friendly group of western Kanucks who are all about the burn baby burn. We've got a thread going on about this too. Oh, and check out the Manifesto.

O.K., back to his email:

I have something I would like to throw out there to be mulled over by community over this next year -- i have thrown it out to Van-town and Ontario community...

it is clear that the Kanadians RAWK on Playa...

I wonder if there is an interest in a joint application " under Theme Camps to have a Kanadian zone of camps -- each on there own ( maybe similar to Gigsville) but located in the same area...
this would mean less distance to travel to Rawking events -- such as orange party, street hockey,Santa con, pussy party, post temple burn party, bike repair camp and any other new events...
and will make the greater camp more interactive with our fellow citizens - hence possibly better placement in the city with possible benefits that go with that.

build on the strengths that the various regions have to make MORE... or just have more fun

i have heard customs agents, a border crossing, passports and body searches -- :-)

hugs
